The Globter Initial Skills Certificate (GIS) is the first step in the Globter certification pathway. It provides a transparent, objective assessment of a driver's practical skills, offering both drivers and employers a reliable picture of real-world readiness—before moving to theoretical training and international job placements.

Purpose of The GIS Certificate

The GIS certificate documents a driver's current practical competence using modern testing technology and real vehicles. It ensures that both drivers and transport companies know:

  • What the driver can do now
  • What areas need improvement
  • Whether the driver is ready to proceed to the next phase

How Is The GIS Certificate Obtained?

The driver completes two essential practical tests at an authorized Globter Centre:

High-Performance Simulator Test

A high-tech simulator replicates the driving conditions of European roads:

  • Simulated environments: roundabouts, intersections, highways, weather (fog, rain), and emergency conditions
  • Evaluates:
    • Vehicle control: braking, steering, acceleration
    • Hazard perception and reaction speed
    • Adherence to European traffic rules

One of the most advanced systems available, it offers a realistic and accurate measure of driving skills.

Practical Driving Test on a Real European Truck (or Bus)

After the simulator, drivers are tested on an actual EU-spec truck or bus. The test includes:

Preparatory Check Before Driving

  • The candidate must:
  • Conduct a visual inspection of the vehicle and cargo.
  • Adjust the seat, headrest, mirrors, and safety equipment.
  • Check for closed doors and clear visibility.
  • Start the engine and verify function of essential devices (lights, wipers, air conditioning).
    • Demonstrate knowledge of key vehicle data:

    • Make and model.
    • Engine displacement and power.
    • Total and permissible vehicle weight.
    • Axle loads.
    • Tire pressure.

      They also perform:

    • Checks on oil, coolant, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid.
    • Checks of lights, tires, brakes, steering, suspension.
    • Verification of cargo security and loading mechanisms.

Driving Manoeuvres (Practical Part)

Key manoeuvres performed on the test ground (polygon):

👉 Right-angle Reverse Parking

  • The candidate drives past the designated area, stops ~10m forward, and reverses back into the marked space over a distance of at least 30m.
  • Must maintain lane discipline and observe surroundings.

👉 Lateral Parking for Loading/Unloading

  • Reverse parking into a side loading bay twice the length of the truck.
  • Correct alignment: vehicle ≤30cm from the loading bay ramp.
  • Surrounded by cones or barriers representing loading dock walls.

👉Frontal Parking for Loading/Unloading

  • Reverse parking into a frontal bay with similar spatial requirements as lateral parking.

👉 Disconnecting and Connecting Semi-Trailers

  • Disconnecting and Connecting Semi-Trailers
    • Candidate demonstrates proper disconnection:
    • Engine off, brakes set, chocks placed.
    • Disconnect air, electrical, and ABS connections.
    • Lower trailer support legs.
      Candidate demonstrates reconnection:
    • Precise alignment of the towing vehicle.
    • Reverse under trailer.
    • Locking the fifth wheel.
    • Reconnecting all systems safely.
    • Optional Elements:
    • Uphill starts.
    • Tight turns in limited spaces.
    • Each manoeuvre is evaluated for:
    • Smoothness.
    • Vehicle control.
    • Compliance with safety and European road regulations.

Scoring System For GIS

Assessment is based on the Globter Multi-Parameter Evaluation Model, with a grade between 1 to 5:

Grade Meaning

1 Severely insufficient skills, unsafe for professional work

2 Major deficiencies; requires significant retraining

3- Weak skills; not job-ready

3 Adequate but insufficient for professional employment

3+ Basic readiness, needs improvement

4- Minimum threshold for proceeding to theoretical training

4 Good skills, suitable for further development

4+ Very good, minor corrections needed

5- Excellent skills, fully job-ready

5 Outstanding skills, exceptional performance

What The GIS Certificate Includes

    Every driver receives:
  • 1 Numerical Score (1–5)
  • 2 Detailed Report:
    • Highlighted strengths
    • Areas for improvement
    • Recommendations for next steps

📌 Only drivers with a score of 4– or higher can proceed to the Globter Competence Certificate (GCC) training.

Why GIS Matters For Drivers And Employers

    Benefits for Drivers:
  • Fair and structured evaluation of real skills
  • Actionable feedback for improvement
  • Stronger positioning in international job markets
    Benefits for Transport Companies:
  • Reduced hiring risks
  • Verified proof of a driver’s readiness
  • Increased trust in foreign recruitment
